URGENT! URGENT! URGENT! URGENT!
Hey guys,
The LANP President & Health Policy committee has notified the board of a senate bill that has been introduced.by Senator Foil from Baton Rouge. The proposed bill is SB405, which would provide joint control of APRNs by LSBME and LSBN. It will also add further restrictions to the current CPA rules. It is imperative that the Lake Charles Region meet face to face with each individual House and Senate Representative this week. Our understanding is that the elected officials have to be back in Baton Rouge for March 9th. Please take this seriously and go visit your elected officials.
Things to discuss: First, let them know that you a voting constituent in their district; EDUCATE them on what a nurse practitioner is and your educational preparation; tell them about your job and what you do on a daily basis for your patients; Explain the type of patient populations that you take care of; tell them how you make a difference in your patient's lives; tell them about how you work with the entire medical team; tell them about any type of community service that you have done. Most importantly - just let them know that you are a voting Nurse Practitioner.
If you are unable to meet face to face, then please call them on the phone and talk with them. Lastly, if you are unable to do either of these then write a letter and get it in the mail before this Friday! Let's make sure that all the local representatives are educated on what an NP is and how many of us there are in the area!!!
THIS WILL REQUIRE EFFORT FROM EVERY NP, & FUTURE NP, IN THE LAKE CHARLES REGION & ACROSS THE STATE! No one is exempt. If we do not rally behind our LANP, we will end up going backward and find more restrictions on our daily practice.
Please give this your immediate attention! We are only as strong as our weakest link!
Respectfully,
Dee Harless and Melissa Kramer
